Sharpies
Artist statement-
For my sharpie pictures, I took them on a white piece of paper to make them look more crisp and stark. I wanted a sterile background to contrast with the bright colors and whimsical designs. I channeled a bit of modern simplicity with the lack of noise in the picture, and the everyday markers. My mom helped me think of interesting ways to arrange them, so the pictures would be more visually interesting. I tried to turn a "boring" or "bland" picture idea into something creative and eye catching.

Bananas
Artist statement-
Most of my banana pictures were taken in traditional poses, with a classic, slightly retro feel to them. However, I experimented with a contrast between a futuristic neon glow filter, and the naturalness of bananas as well. I had trouble thinking of five different poses for the bananas. The main obstacle in this is their curved shape, which make many positions look similar. But, I found many odd poses for them, along with more classic ones.

Lipstick
Artist Statement-
Lipsticks are very versatile objects to photograph, as shown in my pictures. I have a big collection of liquid lipsticks of all different brands and types, but I chose some that still looked similar, but were also clearly different. The chipped and messy bottles show how well loved the lipsticks are, and provide a look in to my daily routine. My main issue photographing the lipstick tubes was getting them to stand up on their own, despite the uneven area I chose to try to balance them. Also, taking the tops off provided a big mess of lipstick all over my hands! But overall, I loved the versatility in these objects.

Coffee
Artist Statement-
I took these coffee pictures while out for lunch with my mom. My mom and I both love the drink, so I can always associate a nice, hot coffee with her. While I originally thought taking pictures of the coffee would be easy, I quickly realized how hard it is to work with a hot, easily spilled liquid. Therefore, most of my pictures were taken in one spot, with the tops securely on. I worked mostly with taking the pictures from interesting angles, to avoiding getting burned. I found great lighting in the Bigby, due to the fact that most of the store is lit by massive open windows.

Sugar
Artist Statement-
This set was gifted to my mom from my constantly traveling Aunt. My mom has always been protective of the delicate set, so I made sure to be careful with them. I loved the feel of the hard wood table, bright colors in the set, and light from the open window. The set in comprised of many pieces that are different shapes, making for unique pictures each time. While I was limited due to not wanting to break anything, I quickly found lovely photos just by taking the shakers on and off the little table, and open or closing the lids.
